What is GEWEBE/EXPLANT? // GEWEBE/EXPLANT is the documentation of a formal aesthetic examination of weaving- and network structures. Under the working title GEWEBE numerous variants of creative products were created, as well as the final installation EXPLANT.
About the (website) presentation // The installation EXPLANT is presented not only as the artistic end result, but also the creative process itself, is presented transparently. Thus one can participate as a viewer and, as it were, explore authentically, visual paths, experiments and exclusion procedures. The various creative forms created during the creative process form a kind of digital book on the website that can be read and discovered chronologically (same as the creation of the image material) via the navigation system (PREV, NEXT).
About the title // The working title describes both the formal and the content-related creative process. Concretely, GEWEBE/EXPLANT shows an interplay in the rhythm of intuitive exploration and analytical explanting. The term GEWEBE remains as the leading term for the space of exploration. With EXPLANT, I took out an essential characteristic from the living organism of the image pool and worked it out as an independent piece of work for the installation.
I explored an important trait for me out of all the experiments and transplant it into a new culture of weavings. There the work no longer develops intuitively or accidentally, but under consciously applied criteria - those that I have marked as decisive and evaluated.
E X P L A N T // The term EXPLANT therefore does not originate from transplantation medicine because it describes, among other things, the surgical procedure in which one or more organs / cells are removed in order to transplant them into a new culture and allow them to continue to grow under observation.
In contrast to the intuitive approach in the exploration phase, the growth conditions of the work for the installation are now subject to certain criteria and are deliberately changed and designed with them. It must be done as sensitive as an operation. The individual works are very filigree and react stubbornly to external influences.
If a classical tissue culture is designed to clone a single cell 1:1, then this work is more about weaving the central character of this "cell" into a multitude of other objects, so that the individual objects carry characteristics of each other but also are on the way in a new, own development process.
